Caligiuri wins endorsement for Senate seat
Waterbury – Republican Sam. S.F. Caligiuri announced Tuesday that he has received a key endorsement in his quest to win the open 16th District stat Senate seat in November.
Former Veterans Affairs Commissioner and state Rep. Eugene A. Migliaro Jr. of Wolcott endorsed Caligiuri’s bid for the seat being vacated by Sen. Christopher Murphy, D-16th District.
“Sam is a real people’s man that’s what you need in order to be a good state senator,” Migliaro is quoted as saying in a Caligiuri campaign release.
Migliaro served as a state representative from Wolcott for 18 years as a Republican.
Among Caligiuri’s most likely challengers is Rep. John Mazurek, D-80th, who has served two terms in that district.
The 16th Senate District covers Wolcott, Cheshire, Southington and parts of Waterbury. Caligiuri had previously received endorsements of Gov. M. Jodi Rell.
