SAM CALIGIURI ENDORSED BY CONNECTICUT BUILDING TRADES UNIONS
Caligiuri Supported by Business and Labor
The Connecticut State Building and Construction Trades Council has endorsed Sam Caligiuri for state Senate in the 16th district. The Trades Council is a labor organization comprising the affiliated trade unions representing construction workers throughout the state. The Trades Council endorsement comes with less than a week to go before Election Day and powerfully demonstrates Caligiuri’s appeal to union members and the business community alike. “Sam has a record of working in an honest, straightforward way with the working men and women of Connecticut, who like his parents, want nothing more than the opportunity to earn an honest wage so they can provide a better life for their families. Sam has not forgotten where he came from,” said Ben Cozzi the president of the Connecticut State Building and Construction Trades Council. This big union endorsement follows an endorsement last month by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, the largest business group in the state. It is unusual, for two groups with agendas that sometimes put them at odds, to come together to support the same candidate. Caligiuri said, “The Building Trades endorsement means a lot to me, because I think it shows I have always dealt honestly and directly with union leaders in Connecticut. Even when I was interim mayor of Waterbury, and had to negotiate contracts with city employee unions, the relationship was always cordial and professional. I think Ben, and the Trades Council realize that I am someone who will protect working families.” Caligiuri’s union endorsement follows endorsements by the Waterbury Republican-American and the Cheshire Herald.
